A brief history of Alvos
ALVOS is a Mexican fintech launched in May 2023 that offers automated microloans and personal loans through a 100% digital, app-based platform. The company primarily serves the unbanked population (people who, for various reasons, lack access to traditional banking services) with short-term, small-amount loans. Its operation combines fast credit origination with Open Finance solutions (via Belvo) for high-volume automated loan recovery, positioning it among the highest-volume fintechs in its segment in the country.
The challenge
During its first two years of operation, ALVOS verified each new customer's identity manually. As the portfolio grew rapidly, the manual model became three critical bottlenecks:
Speed: approving a new customer took about 3 hours, incompatible with the "in minutes" credit promise that defines the segment.
