Nina Schick at SECOP: 3 Fronts of the Global AI Race

AI security, digital identity, liveness detection, geopolitics

What does Artificial Intelligence truly mean for the future of government and national security? Oz Forensics sponsored the keynote speech of AI and geopolitics expert Nina Schick at the 2025 SECOP in Brasília, an event that brought together legislators, state government and heads of both federal and local IT public agencies to the capital of Brazil, to discuss innovation and secure digitalization of public services.

Nina’s message was clear: the era of "industrial intelligence" has arrived. For any leader, understanding this new technological cold war is a necessity. This is where advanced biometric software becomes essential, and robust liveness detection is one of the now critical infrastructures to prevent fraud and protect citizens’ identity.

The Geopolitical Battlefield: Nina Schick's Warning

Nina Schick opened with a powerful quote:  'Whoever becomes the leader in AI will be the ruler of the world.' This, she argued, is now a geopolitical reality.

The reason is the "AI Scaling Law", which is accelerating technological progress at an unforeseen pace. Back in the 1960s Intel’s co-founder Gordon Moore observed that computing power doubles every 18-24 months, while costs were maintained or even lowered. AI's capability is doubling every 6 months in recent years with cost fast speeding towards zero to the end consumer. This is turning AI into a cheap and abundant commodity that will power every facet of the economy and security.

Nina highlighted that this race for AI is not just about algorithms; it's a battle for control over the entire technological infrastructure, fought on three critical fronts:

  1. Energy: The "AI factories" of the future have an unprecedented need for power.

  2. Semiconductors (Chips): A critical global vulnerability exists in semiconductors, as Taiwan makes over 90% of the world's most advanced chips.

  3. Talent: There is an intense talent war for the best AI engineers, and this competition is so fierce that compensation packages can reach the billion-dollar mark.

The Technological Response: Securing Trust in the AI Era

Nina Schick masterfully outlines the strategic threats. But how do governments and businesses operate securely on this new battlefield? If AI is the most powerful force of the 21st century, it also represents the greatest threat.

Deepfakes make it hard to trust what we see, so how can a verification system know if a user is a real person? The answer lies in a modern identity verification solution.

In response to this growing threat, regulators for financial services are tightening requirements. Frameworks like GDPR and AML directives now demand robust KYC solutions to combat financial crimes, often requiring verification of a government-issued ID. This makes a proven liveness detection technology crucial.

An effective facial liveness detection system is essential for any secure KYC verification process, and it is at the core of digital trust; its purpose is to ensure the user is a live person and physically present.

Watch the Full Keynote to Understand the "Why"

Nina Schick’s complete presentation offers a deep dive into the powerful global forces behind the AI race. Her analysis is the first step to understanding the scale of these challenges.

To defend against the threats that arise in the world, a new standard of security is required. While Nina Schick explains the strategic threats, OZ Forensics provides the tools to win the fight for digital trust. A certified liveness detection SDK, for instance, is the practical defense against deepfakes and fraud.
